We publish accessible, engaging work that helps readers connect with science, STEM careers, community, and the world around them.
We welcome submissions from scientists, students, educators, communicators, artists, and curious people with something meaningful to share.
What We Publish
Science and society
Science explainers, research stories, environmental topics, health, technology, ethics, policy, and science in everyday life.
STEM careers and community
Career experiences, professional development, mentorship, workplace culture, community stories, and reflections from people working or studying in STEM.
Perspectives and opinion
Personal essays, commentary, advocacy, equity and inclusion, and thoughtful opinion pieces related to science or STEM.
Visual work
Infographics, scientific illustration, data visualization, photography, comics, and original art inspired by science.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for original, polished, publication-ready work that is accurate, accessible to a general audience, and aligned with the mission of Women in Science PDX.
More specifically:
Complete, final drafts rather than pitches
Clear writing for non-specialist readers
Proper citations and image credits where needed
Respectful, inclusive, and evidence-based content

How it works

Prepare your final work and supporting files.
Submit everything via email to: comms@womeninsciencepdx.org.
The volunteer editorial team will review your submission and contact you with a decision or requested edits.
Important Expectations
Submission does not guarantee publication. WIS PDX may request edits for clarity, accuracy, length, accessibility, or style. Contributors retain authorship of their work while granting WIS PDX permission to publish and promote accepted submissions.
