Scholar Testimonials

  • A very heartfelt thank you to the various sponsors of the WIS Professional Development Scholarship. Due to their generosity, I am able to attend the entirety of my first professional conference without enduring financial hardship. As a first-year doctoral student, both the educational and networking opportunities that this conference will offer are invaluable.

    — K.S., 2021 PD recipient

  • The WIS Professional Development Scholarship allowed me to attend a workshop that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. The workshop helped me cultivate critical skills for my career trajectory and opened doors to new projects and collaborations at work. As a post-doc, there is limited funding available to me for professional development, and I'm so grateful to WIS PDX for the support they provide women in science!

    — A.B., 2022 PD recipient

  • Each time I present at a conference, I am introduced to a broader range of scientists and allowed to grow within myself and as a researcher. Conferences can unfortunately be very expensive, even for students. This scholarship will allow me to attend a variety of conferences that I never would have been able to access without funding and further ignite my passion as I continue through my degree.
