Birdwatching Adventure with Rose Marie

  • Whitaker Ponds Nature Park 7040 Northeast 47th Avenue Portland, Oregon, 97218 United States (map)

How many birds do you pass every day without noticing them? 🐦

Turns out, Portland is home to an incredible diversity of birds, and we’re heading outside to see who we can find!

Join Rose Marie, scientist and avid birder, for a morning of birdwatching at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park. We’ll slow down, look a little closer, and learn more about some of the feathered neighbors sharing our city.

Rose Marie came to birding by way of science. A physics-trained biochemist and microscopist, she fell in love with birds during a wildlife trip to Australia in 2023 and has since logged 75% of the Pacific Northwest’s bird species. Now she’s excited to introduce the WIS community to a hobby that has completely changed how she experiences the natural world around her.

Never been birding before? Perfect. No expertise required, and you definitely don’t need to know the difference between a sparrow and a slightly different sparrow. 😂 Whether you’re already the person stopping mid-conversation because you heard an interesting bird call or you’re simply curious about what’s out there, come explore with us.

Bring your curiosity, dress for the weather, and join us for a morning of birds, science, and good company. Bring binoculars if you have them!

No registration or sign-up required. Just show up and come birding with us! 🔭

⛅ This event is weather permitting.
