We're back! Join us for our next community walk — this time into the heart of Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the country, to visit one of Portland's most magical hidden gems: the Witch's Castle.
Date: Saturday, July 18, 2026
Meet: 10:00 AM · Lower Macleay Park, 2960 NW Upshur St, Portland, OR 97210 Distance: ~1.6 miles out and back · Easy to moderate pace We'll wait until 10:15 AM — no need to stress if you're running a few minutes behind.
The route: From the Lower Macleay trailhead, we'll follow the Lower Macleay Trail along Balch Creek through old-growth forest to the moss-covered stone ruins known as the Witch's Castle — a 1930s restroom shelter reclaimed by the forest and Portland legend. We return the same way.
What to bring: sturdy shoes (the trail can be muddy), water, and your sense of adventure. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
All are welcome — members, friends, and anyone new to the group.
